Galileo Galilei was one of histories most famous scientists because of his outstanding discoveries. He proved a hypothesis that was once thought as a fact for many years to be wrong. He wasn't the only scientist that disagreed with the ideas of Aristotle, (that were: a) Everything revolves around us, the Earth because we were in the center. b) The moon was a perfect sphere, so it had no craters, cracks or mountains. c) Things can only be effected by one force) he studied under the ideas of the daring scientist, Copernicus. The only differences between Galileo and the other scientist were that he actually discovered evidence and made experiments that backed up his thoughts. Keep on reading to see more evidence of his beliefs.
Moon Observations
As you see, the moon has many craters and is not a perfect sphere.
Jupiter and it's Moons
Do you see the small dot that surround Jupiter that move? If you see them, you are looking at Jupiter's moons, congratulations!
Saturn's Rings
Galileo was the first to completely see the rings surrounding Saturn, even though he first thought it was a triple planet.
Phases of Venus
In our view of Venus, we see different phases like the moon.
Sun Spots
Do you see that small spec on the sun? That is a sun spot. The saying of Aristotle made people believe that the sun had a heavenly body so it wasn't suppose to have bursts of fire that come an go. Galileo showed that the sun has these bursts and is not a heavenly body.
One of the many things that Galileo proved Aristotle wrong.
